From the simple, wonderfully warm solo moments streamed from home on a mobile phone to more professionally staged shows capturing a band in full flight, isolation due to widespread lockdowns has delivered us some of the best talent across Australia’s live music community.

Whether it’s been Powderfinger’s recent one-night reunion or Jimmy Barnes and his wife Jane singing around the kitchen table, there’s never been a time quite like this for performers or music fans. This weekend, as lockdowns start to ease, there’s still a wealth of live music to catch from the comfort of your couch, including tonight’s Islands in the Stream live from The Night Cat, featuring Dub FX, Merpire, The Black Jesus Experience and a DJ set from MZRISK. This weekly dose of great live music from one of Melbourne’s funkiest live venues starts at 8pm and promises to have you cutting some serious rug in your uggs. Donations towards ongoing support of the music community can be made at Eventbrite.

On Saturday from 5pm, direct from the Tramway Hotel in Fitzroy North, tune into Melbourne’s Van Walker playing songs from his extensive back catalogue. Walker, whose distinctive voice appears on the new isolation-themed track See You When I’m Looking at You by Mick Thomas and the Roving Commission, will be itching to get back after months away from the stage. Visit the Tramway Hotel website, where donations can be made, for more information about this and other upcoming shows.

For ABBA fans, Saturday night is the ultimate pyjama party with BABBA transporting you and anyone else at home (up to 20 people, of course) back in time to the greatest of Benny, Bjorn, Agnetha and Frida’s hits, from Waterloo to Dancing Queen and Mamma Mia. Tune in from 7pm at Memo Music Hall. Tickets are now available from $12.

The popular Sydney Opera House sessions From Our House to Yours continue with Paul Capsis performing live on Saturday from 8pm in the Joan Sutherland Theatre. Don’t miss the chance to see a unique performance from the comfort of your own home.
