I was out for a walk in my neighborhood when I noticed these stacked street signs, and the singular red 4 on an otherwise washed out “No Parking” sign caught my attention. As I looked closer (below right), I could see that for some mysterious reason, the original “4” stayed relatively intact – you can see a little peeling or deterioration around the edges, but it’s the original numbering – yet everything else has fallen off or faded into obscurity.

I wonder what it was about the 4 that made it through without the same fate as the rest of the sign? I can’t say I’ve ever seen a sign like this.
