This photograph was taken a while ago, but it’s a nice example of “found art” on a sidewalk in the Chelsea neighborhood of New York City. It features a long black string, perhaps it’s from a hoodie? But it must have been dropped on the sidewalk before a rain, because the sidewalk now seems stained with the wetness from the string. I also like how the string seems to have fallen on the ground in this odd layout, with the top horizontal part going right to the edge of the white paint that has spilled on the sidewalk. And then we have the cigarette butt right there to help complete the composition.

Do you find this artistic? It reminds me a little bit of the top half of Marcel Duchamp’s “The Bride Stripped Bare by her Bachelors, Even (The Large Glass),” although it reminds me a little bit of this William Baziotes painting titled “Congo” as well …
